Lucia

Spanish Instructor

Originally from Uruguay, Lucia lived in Mexico before moving to Texas in 2010. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a master’s degree in Spanish with a focus on Linguistics from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. She was also accepted into the university’s doctoral program in Curriculum and Instruction.

Lucia teaches Spanish in UTRGV’s Department of Writing and Language Studies, working with both beginning and advanced students, including non-native speakers and Spanish-speaking students studying linguistics. Her classroom philosophy centers on creating a low-stress, supportive community where learners feel comfortable participating and taking the risks that language development requires.

Her own experience learning languages informs her empathetic approach. Outside the classroom, Lucia enjoys reading, music, yoga, meditation, and studying Portuguese, and she hopes to continue exploring languages through travel and cultural immersion.
