Originally from Rio Grande do Sul in southern Brazil, Dr. Jamile has more than 23 years of experience teaching Portuguese, Spanish, and English. She holds a PhD and a master’s degree in Hispanic Linguistics from Florida State University, where she also earned a TESOL certificate.
Her experience includes language programs, schools, liberal arts colleges, research universities, and study abroad programs in the United States and abroad. Working in varied settings has given her a strong understanding of different language goals and educational needs. She has also received two Fulbright grants supporting pedagogical training for public-school language teachers in Brazil.
In addition to teaching, Dr. Jamile conducts research on bilingualism, trilingualism, and second-language lexical processing. In her free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, meditating, watching soccer, and spending time with her cat, Bruce Wayne.
